Precinct Officers
The Garvin County Democratic Party is preparing for its biannual party reorganization. Part of the reorganization is the Precinct Committee Call. The Precinct Committee Call is the process through which Precinct Officers are elected.
What is a Precinct Officer?
The Democratic Party is hierarchically structured, at both the state and federal level. Within the Oklahoma Democratic Party (ODP), the entry point to be able to participate as an official of the Party, such as in electing officers for the party and guiding policies, is the Precinct Officer.
The state election board divides the state into voting precincts. When you register to vote, your precinct determines what elections you’re eligible to participate in and where you go to physically vote at a poll. That same precinct is also the smallest official unit of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. Precinct officers are the foundation upon which the Oklahoma Democratic Party and the Garvin County Democratic Party are built. Precinct officers are a voter’s most local representative in the Party. Precinct officers form a precinct committee - a group of neighbors working together on common goals in support of local, state, or national initiatives.
Each precinct committee consists of three officers: a chair, a vice-chair, a secretary, and up to 4 additional committee members. Anyone is eligible to be a precinct officer if they have an active voter registration in that precinct as a Democrat.
Registered Democrats from across Garvin County are encouraged to attend the April 5, 2025, meeting to select the individuals who will represent them at the precinct level. See our Events Calendar for details.
Those who are interested in becoming a Precinct Officer are encouraged to attend.
